OWL & FISH
I was going through my son's GK book the last night and i went through a surprisingly beautiful nuance regarding 'groups' of animals and birds.
A group of fishes is called a "SCHOOL" or a "SHOAL" while a group of owls is called a "PARLIAMENT".
For parliament, as per some Greek mythology, Owls are considered to be wise. In India they are considered as the conveyance vehicle of goddess Lakshmi (THE GODDESS OF WEALTH AND PROSPERITY)
What a great sequel !
Owls in parliament and goddess of wealth.
Owls in schools and deprived FISHES.
Caught in ambiguity?
Let me take you to the light.
In India, teachers (Indian teachers of the good old days) used to call their students "ULLU" (Hindi version of owl") just for gags and smiles or due to something silly that the student might have done. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, it was always taken on a lighter mood. People used to call someone, "ullu ka pattha"( child of an owl) as a funny version to address someone they loved.
Now let me come to school. A group of fish is called a school. Let me delve a little more into the subject. Fishes live in waters and they are absolutely fit for surviving in water. They move and live freely in water. It actually means that fishes have been created likewise, by the nature itself. Their freedom is their strength. They learn to dine and survive from diners.
Now what the school (pathshala, vidyalaya) of today does ?
It takes out the fish(student) from an endless ocean with limitless opportunities to learn and know, to a manmade 'aquarium' with an oxygen pump and a few colored pebbles and plenty of audience to watch them all the time in a drawing room of a bounded edifice.
These are the poorest of the fishes that i would say, exist. They have boundaries around their own infinite. Boundaries planned and laid down by great "owls of education". The parliament is full of people we elect, the term has been coined extremely wisely. Parliament.
Schools are in a hurry to grow and become the most sought after school in the next season. The promoters want their investments back ASAP and etc etc. There is nothing wrong about it. My question is at what cost?
Who is the loser in this "owl & fish saga"
Freedom is the key to success. Its the lack of freedom that makes the last two days of a week, weekend. TGIF is the term that has its origin in 'lack of freedom'. Are people really free to work in offices? Are the senior leaderships of schools, companies and even the parliament looking forward to such freedom which the fishes have in the ocean.
Talking about schools only, as of now, brings in trillions of questions which is always an easier task to raise. what can be done for attaining this courage of imparting the instinctive and natural freedom to the students of today's schools.
Lets work for creating legit humans in schools and not just scholars. The bottom line for my statement is that the entire mankind is run, beautified and managed by absolutely normal and ordinary humans. Not everyone here is a scholar nor can everyone be one. And to be true, not all should be one.
Students need 30 degrees freedom.
Freedom to walk.
Freedom to talk.
Freedom to ask.
Freedom to seek.
Freedom to express.
Freedom to commit mistakes.
Freedom to run in the corridor.
Freedom to dance with the teacher.
Freedom to smile when the teacher sneezes.
Freedom to look into the eyes of the teacher and say, "you are beautiful".
Freedom to love.
What max would happen?
The academic outputs might incur some losses BUT just a sensible human is what the world needs and not the top notch scholastic creatures.
Lets FREE the learners.
That's how it is.
