Planning a class
Planning a class: Questioning Oneself.
What does it take to plan a class?
Ask questions?
It takes an ideology: Why are you taking the class?
It takes a thought: What do you think your learners should know?
It takes a value: What values can you add to the learner’s life today?
The biggest question: How can you make your learners ‘today’ better than ‘yesterday’ ?
Let’s delve.
Make a pie chart of division of time and labor for different things in a 45 minutes class. Time delegation. Also, create a flow chart of the matter in your mind.
Reconnecting the previous class with the present class is a very crucial factor. Teachers usually miss out this. They simply ask,” where were we yesterday?” and the move ahead. Be it #sachintendulkar or #latamangeshkar, connecting the previous session with the current one will make you a star and there is no way out. They #dailysoaps always start with a recap.
Ease off the class environment for the fresh class. This is as similar to the ‘warm up’ before the match. Talk to the learners about an important cricket match that happened the previous day or something of that sort, start with #humor and some smiles. This is not just to make your learners, your fans but it’s a mental state of acceptance that you create in the minds of the learners for yourself.
Discussing the topic : Making the learners read, read and comprehend and try to give some insights. Let it come from the learner.
See if there is a scope of a short role play. Or it can be planned at the end of the topic as well. Always remember that role plays cane be done for any subject and any topic. That has to be an absolutely #original. Agreed to the support that internet can render but ‘no copy paste’. The learners are smarter. And if you are the creator of the role play, you can answer any question related to that.
Use general life examples for connecting the dots. This is where you become different and this is where you come to know your own learning capabilities. A teacher with genuine examples is remembered the most.
Search, research, find, rework, finish and then serve.
Keep a note of your work, that becomes your indigenous lesson plan. Kill stereotype.
Plan the entire topic at a go with all the focus you can put. Stay put. Just keep your own mind open to learning. There are numerous occasions where a teacher learns a lot. Don’t miss them.
The moment when a teacher starts creating question, the teacher starts evolving.
Books a just a support, not necessarily they should be used throughout the class.
Create an environment of curiosity in the class. Make sure your magic wand isn’t visible. Your learner’s eyes would communicate your intentions.
Let the learners ask anything. If you find something really difficult to answer. Appreciate it and assure the learner that you will find the right answer and revert back. Don’t forget to revert. Killing the curiosity is killing the learner. Just say, “lets find this together’.
Teach your learners to struggle with their curiosities. This gesture will take your learners to places.
Remember, “without the voids of curiosity, the vacuum is never going to be filled with knowledge.
Be Classy!! Be Brave!! Be yourself!! Be ‘The’ teacher!!
