Can schools be ranked?
If Yes then How?
What could be the process?
What can be the parameters?
The anecdote: I worked with some company which got its own client schools as No-1 in infrastructure, No-1 in academics, happiness quotient and 'n' numbers of No-1 and even No-01 in the state, central India and so on. The jury belonged to the company itself. Simply sending the #principal of a school to a #metro city and getting them pose for an award and then market that picture for at least one academic admission season. Stupid.
Is there any gazetted process for this or its simply a gimmick like that of "satyagraha" which the text books and the policy makers are still in the grip of.
What does any school achieve by getting itself declared as the "TOP or The Best" in any arena?
Can the schools be adjudged?
Can We?
Should they be?
Is this just to increase the foot falls in the school premise through gold plated bronze coins?
This is happening in our country just because schools are getting more and more unsecured. Not because of the competition in the market but due to their own incompetence to catch hold of the sense of education. The very first sense of education is 'awareness' and the second seems to me, is willingness to struggle for creating the environment for education.
Growth of a school is not just from the number of sections it has per class but by proud parents who visit schools with or without any reason. What do schools actually mean by happiness?
Whose happiness they talk about and aspire for?
A school is just a school and it should be just a school. At the end of the day, similar children study in every school. By ranking schools we are ranking children of the society. Isn't it a contradiction to what the #learned faction of the world boasts about, The equity?
The ranking system often overlooks important aspects like inclusivity, diversity, and the school's efforts to cater to students with special needs. This can lead to discrimination as these schools might be ranked lower despite their efforts. The societal perception of a student's worth can be influenced by the ranking of their school. This can lead to discrimination and a sense of inferiority among students from lower-ranked schools.
The ranking system promotes a competitive environment rather than encouraging collaboration and mutual growth among schools. This can lead to discrimination as schools might be reluctant to share resources and best practices.
How would any child feel about his school if it is not ranked? In our policies we take care of #exam stress, #baggage, #homework and what not, so called loads on the learners but what are we doing on a #mass scale by #ranking schools. Putting loads on the psyche.
This #school ranking business is usually run by the people who actually earn their #livelihood by keeping the #blind, blind. And no where there is any sense of giving vision.
This nonsensical and non-affirmative narrative of #ranking schools should be, at least ignored and avoided if not stopped.
